For my midterm paper I will focus on this and other images of "Aunt Jemima" taken while this nostalgic-for-salvery pancake brand began to germinate and flourish in the United States. Referring to books such as "Our Fellow Kentuckian Rascals," my project is aimed towards gaining more insight into the life of Nancy Green, our nation's first "Aunt Jemima." Using references and primary sources like these, I intend to illuminate the life of a woman whose blackness was quite literally commodified.
